  • The Second System

    1929 subway expansion plans, known as the IND Second System, called for a host of new subway lines, including two unbuilt tunnels between Manhattan and Williamsburg. Today New York is haphazardly building a new Second System in the form of ferries, bus rapid transit, light rail, and an occasional new heavy rail line.
  • L Train Shutdown

    The 14th street tunnel will close for 18 months begining in April 2019. Until it re-opens this blog will report closure news and consider what a 21st century Second System might look like for North Brooklyn.
